What happens when geeks go wild? They get pepper sprayed by
St. Paul Police and charged with indecent exposure. At least,
that’s what happened in the spring of 2007, when six
streakers were busted "letting their nerds hang out"
at Geek Prom.
You can read more about it here,
here
and here.
Since the incident, the prom committee has been
raising money to cover the streakers' legal expenses. The
goal is to raise as much as possible of the $3,640 in court
fees and other costs associated with clearing their records.
So far, $830 has been raised.
The streakers — two from Duluth, two from St. Paul,
one from Cyrus and one from Superior — pitched in to
hire an attorney who negotiated a continuance for dismissal.
The incident was removed from their records after they completed
one year of probation without a similar crime (if what they
did can be considered a crime).
At the 2008 Geek Prom, two of the 2007 streakers flaunted
their probation by "streaking" while wearing flesh-colored
body suits. Two actual streakers accompanied them.
The streakers' legal cost is a total of the attorney’s
fee, court costs, prosecution surcharges and probation fees.
Each streaker also completed 40 hours of community service
work in 2007.
